Vow to hold GOP accountable for War on Good Government
Statement from Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, Deb Haaland:
“All of us at the DPNM were shocked and saddened by the news of the announcement of a multi-count criminal indictment against Republican Secretary of State Dianna Duran. I applaud Attorney General Hector Balderas for taking a completely transparent and honest approach to the difficult task of filing extremely serious charges against a fellow statewide official and longtime ally of Governor Martinez. These allegations are extremely concerning for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the fact that Secretary Duran was entrusted with the duty of enforcing the very campaign finance laws which it appears she so brazenly broke. AG Balderas did the right thing for the people of New Mexico.
“Unfortunately this case is only the latest in a series of charges and allegations that reflect a Republican war on good government in New Mexico. The ongoing scandal in the Department of Education relative to the Albuquerque Public School District and charges of ethical violations in the Department of Taxation and Revenue are reminders why the DPNM will fight hard to retake control of the state house and retain control of the state senate in the 2016 election.
“As Democrats we will fight to end the callous disregard for the high standards of personal conduct expected of our elected officials by sending people to Santa Fe that put New Mexico first, not their own personal or political agenda.”
