Dear Fellow Democrats:
I am writing you today to inform you that I will not be seeking a second term as your Party Chairman.
It has been an honor and privilege to have served as your Chairman over the past year and a half and I thank you all for giving me this opportunity. Serving as your chair has been one of the greatest honors of my political career. While we have had our challenges, I cannot thank you enough for meeting those challenges head on. We are resilient, tenacious, driven and above all, refuse to back down from any fight so long as we are fighting for the interests of the people of our great state.
Across the country it was a bad election night for Democrats but I want you to know as your Chairman that I take full and complete responsibility for the poor election results here in New Mexico.
That being said, I am proud of every single one of our candidates that ran for office in 2014. They worked extremely hard and we all owe them our gratitude for throwing their hat in the ring. We have tremendous Democratic leaders in this state and many more who are coming up in the wings. So while the results of one election may be disheartening, I have never been so hopeful for the future. Now is the time for new leaders to come forward with new ideas and I am excited to help a new administration in their endeavor to take our Party to new heights.
I want to personally thank some of those great leaders of our state including Senators Udall and Heinrich, Congresswoman Lujan Grisham, Congressman Luján, Speaker Martinez and Majority Leader Sanchez, and the many others that have worked tirelessly to not only support the Democratic Party, but also the people of New Mexico. Your leadership and dedication to the Party cannot be understated and we all owe you a debt of gratitude.
To all of the county party chairs, vice chairs, local party officials and all our volunteers and party staff, words cannot express enough my gratitude for all of the amazing work you have done in your communities.
All the best,
