Heather Wilson Wants to Continue Her Record of Putting the Wealthy and Special Interests First

During her 10 years in Congress, Republican Senate candidate Heather Wilson established a long record of putting the rich and special interests ahead of New Mexico’s middle class.  Now, Wilson refuses to support middle class tax cuts unless the wealthiest 2 percent get tax cuts, too.

“Instead of fighting for the majority of hard-working New Mexican families, Heather Wilson is intent on another budget-busting giveaway for millionaires and billionaires,” said Whitney Potter, spokeswoman for Democratic Senate candidate Martin Heinrich.

From 2001-2006, Wilson supported each and every round of the Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthy. Wilson’s votes were a windfall for the wealthiest 2 percent, and contributed more than $1.7 trillion to the deficit.  Now, Wilson wants to extend the Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthy, giving millionaires an average tax cut of $160,000 dollars, and adding $50 billion to the deficit in 2013 alone.

“Heather Wilson’s record shows that she is willing to break the bank in order to put the wealthy first,” said Potter.  “New Mexicans want a leader whose priorities are with hard-working families and the middle class.”
