Armed with sunscreen and water bottles and promising to “turn up the heat” until November, hundreds of Democrats turned out in 104 degree southern New Mexico weather on Saturday for a Summer Rally in the Park sponsored by the Democratic Women of Doña Ana County. The rally, held at Pioneer Women’s Park in Las Cruces heard from Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Martin Heinrich and State Treasurer James B. Lewis. Also addressing the crowd were state and local community leaders incuding Democratic State Central Committeewoman Mary Gail Gwaltney, State Representative Joni Gutierrez, Sam Bregman of Grassroots New Mexico, Jessica Martinez, past Youth President of LULAC, Carrie Hamblen, the local Chapter President of PFLAG, and education activists Helen Davis and Randy Moncrieff.
Most of our local Democratic Doña Ana County public officials, Obama for America, along with this season’s slate of Democratic candidates for state, county and judicial office were on hand to greet area Democrats and rally the crowd.
